You turned the thermostat up and the bill still went up.

There is one lever most people never touch: which rate plan you are on. Same power, same house, different price — depending on the hour you use it.

Same kilowatt-hour. The only thing that changed is the clock.

Why the number here is different

Every other calculator answers with your state’s average price. That number describes nobody. It cannot tell you that running the dryer at 2pm costs several times what it costs at 2am, because an average has no hours in it.

This reads your utility’s actual filed tariff — the hour-by-hour schedule, the tier thresholds, the fixed charge.

Utilities where the hour matters

all 135

These 78 offer at least one plan priced by the hour. If yours is here, moving your water heater or car charging is worth real money.

What we will not do

We do not publish plans that closed to new customers, plans that expired, or plans whose tariff only covers part of your bill. That leaves 25,509 ZIP codes across 135 utilities we can answer for honestly — roughly two thirds of the country, not all of it.
